Draft Imperial Guard - 1500pts

A first draft for what will become my 'standard' 1500pts list, at the moment I'm trying to fit in both my favourite units, but also in an effective format.

At the moment I'm working on the basis of a strong firebase formed around 1st Platoon while 2nd Platoon provides a mobile element - though thanks to their Chimera's they too have a fair amount to contribute to the overall firepower of the army, certainly I could turn to Veterans for this, but I perfer to have more units.

Company Commander @75pts
inc. Standard Bearer, Autocannon Team

Infantry Platoon
Platoon Commander @40pts
inc. Autocannon
Infantry Squad @85pts
inc. Plasma Gun, Lascannon Team

Wow, a lot of heavy weapons in there!
Not sure if you are looking for advice or anything, but my blogmate (i guess that's what I could call him) posted up a battle report with the new codex and put his thoughts down at the end (link at the end of the comment). Anyways, one of the points was that heavy weapons outside of Mortar Squads are pretty useless due to low leadership and two wounds per gun (so easily insta-killed).
Just some food for thought!

A fair few, I like lots of bang for my buck so to speak ;) It's a draft thoguh so definately open to suggestions, it's gonna be a little while before I'm ready to put it to the field.

I actually read the battle report when it was posted, I'm quite concious that the Teams are more vulnable then they were, but thats my only concern, I've lived with their leadership and other weaknesses previously, an now they're cheaper, though I realise that cover, or screening, is more important then ever.

Looks like a pretty solid list. Standard bearer takes the place of a commissar in the static squads, and rerollable leadership 7 should keep you fairly safe. Just make sure that your company command team doesn't bite it, or else your troops will break fairly easily. Therefore just for protection's sake I might spring for a chimera for the CCS.

I would also recommend some more weapons on your PCSs; they have 4 special weapons slots (2 if you go for the heavy weapon), so use them! Flamers and grenade launchers make perennially favorite, cheap choices, though I could understand if you simply wanted more ablative wounds in the way of your guns. Still, 4 flamer templates kills just about everything, and 4 melta/plas with BID is just gravy.

You aren’t taking any of the new Advisors? They are so good!

Since you are taking so many heavy weapons teams and so many infantry squads you might look into Creed (or Gravis, you call him whatever you like). He is way more points than I would ever spend on a Command HQ but I take way less infantry than you do, even at 2000pts! I say this because he can issue 4 orders a turn, meaning 4 heavy weapon teams can “Go To Ground” when the enemy shoots them, and then he can say “Get Back in the Fight!” 3+ cover might keep them shooting for longer…

Also you really need a Chimer for your Command HQ, especially with Camo Netting. 3+ cover save on a vehicle means people will likely ignore them the entire game, which is excellent!

@Kings:

Can you do that? The 'Incoming!' order means the teams must go to ground immediately (p36). Surely Gravis would be negating the fire of four heavy weapons teams!

Thanks for sharing, Gravis: I'm still trying to reconcile myself to my own Strategic Defence Review...
