Helblade Turret (Part 1)

As the first extra for the Mag Baneblade I'm building a turret with a Titan Class Inferno Gun for it, which I'm dubbing the Helblade.

I'm simply using a spare turret with some plasti-card, with the intention of adding some extra fuel tanks to the rear of the turret where the stowage would normally be.

The gun itself is made from two sizes of tubing and one H section.

The three main barrel sections were then connected by the H sections.

The completed section was mounted on a piece of plasti-card to connect to the turret (dry fitted here), the larger tubing pieces were slipped over the end of the barrels (again a dry fitting here) and the nozels of some Baeneblade Heavy Flamers fitted inside the inner barrels.

Now comes the dilema, do I leave the 'sleeves' as they are now, hole then, or connect them to one single sleeve as in the Forge World version (below) - which again could be holed.

What do you think?

It looks great without the sleeve, without it it reminds me of the mammoth or the juggernaught tanks from command and conquer 3. As a flamer though it needs the sleeve.

I vote for the FW version with the additional sleeve over the barrels.

That is already looking really good. However, the FW-style sleeve designates what the weapon is very clearly, I think.

Sleeve. Although yes: it does currently look cool. Nice one!

Ahh, very clever. I was wondering where this was going until I saw the titan flamer photo. I agree with mighty flip. add some legs and it's right from tiberium wars!

Def a slever over the barrels. Use a hole punch on some thin plasticard?

Looks real nice. The sleeves really add to the feel.

David Polhamus, Leaqder of the Holy 77th,

I think ind. sleeves would look better, and more realistic, but the real thing is which do you really want to do, and which will be quicker or more enjoyable for you.

I like the look of the Forgeworld one, myself. It's a very iconic image. Good job thus far, General.

I think it looks great so far. I agree that it needs a sleeve though. As to whether it should be exactly like the Forge World sleeve, I'm not sure. Would the weapon, though the same in practice, be manufactured in a way that it looked the same across two completely different vehicles? For instance, the vulcan mega bolter on the Warhound and the Macharius tank do the same job, but look slightly different. Just a thought.

This looks great. Regardless of one large sleeve (as Forge World has done) or three separate ones, they should be "holed". Additionally, will you be adding an igniter on to the front each barrel?
Again, fantastic looking start.

Thanks for all your comments folks! I'm gonna go with a single holed sleeve as seems to be popular opinion, at the moment I'm making a base for that sleeve, not entirely sure how I'll do the holes yet as I lack a proper punch for the job, might be time to invest in one!

Igniters will be added, I've got some lined up for the job already, just want to get the sleeve sorted first before adding the more delicate bits.

Thanks again!

Yeah, the one sleeve is better. Also Hellblade is a name of Chaos aircraft (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/ehellblade.htm), so you might want to come up with a new name for it. Maybe Hellsword?

It is indeed the name of a chaos aircraft, but I'm not too bothered by that, I like the name lol ;)

"Hellblade" is the name of the Chaos fighterbomber. The Chaos fighter is a "Helltalon."

Are you OK? No updates in a long while, leaves me wondering...
