Venatio Accipiter (Part 4)

It's been a while, too long infact, but I've finally got round to working on my Warhound again. The reason is there will be an Apocolypse game for my local clubs last night at our old venue at GW Exeter this coming week, and I decided I wanted to use something large and new - had to be the Warhound.

While there is a long ong way to go, I've almost finished painting the hull's interior.



Have completed the basic assembly and base coated a good portion of the lower hull and weapons, theres alot of painting to do the externals, much tidying and detailing, but assembled it's given me some serious motivation, my plan is to carry on working on it over the summer and to get it finished at last. I'm going to get on with finishing the painting on the legs next, before adding the extra armour plates and pistons to this area, then I'll get back to working on the torso.

I've done something very silly...

Yes, as the title says I've done something very silly, which has kind of blown the Hobby Fund out of the water!



Now in my defence, it was a real bargin, almost 50% off from Forgeworld's price, especially given as it was someone from Exeter's other gaming club which meant no postage to pay either. I hav'nt quite decided how to justify it other then that yet! Though it is such a lovely model that it may be that it does'nt need it! It won't see the light of day for a while yet, the Warhound still needs finishing (and I must admit I am itching to get on with that), only the GT and commissions are holding me off.

I was'nt going to mention it quite yet, but a couple of people at Exeter Inquisition were demanding to know why there was no news of it - while bets were being placed on how long it would take me to finish it, talk of flying pigs and four angry men on horseback yelling something about a big game of Apocolypse were the common theme!

Venatio Accipiter (Part 3)

Yes, some hobby stuff once more!

I've been fairly busy with work as of late amongst other things, but just about whenever I've had the chance I've been beavering away on the Venatio Accipiter again. The result of this is a model with the legs now completely basecoated with Charadon Granite. Why you ask? Well because I liked the colour so I started applying that, I'm thinking a mix with Catachan Green to bring it up a bit next, plus plenty more work on the metal. This has been the reason for quite a dry month as far as hobby is concerned, it's taken rather a long time!



The base meanwhile I'm intending to do with a moorlandish feel, something like in the picture below, there will be a pool in the center of the base with scrub and the like around it. My hope is this will be suitable more impressive then how I do my bases normally (quickly!) while it'll still blend in with them when the army is used as a whole.



I've also been working on the forward portion of the main hull's interior which I hope to update with pictures next time, indeed with a bit of luck I'll be able to get the main portion of the hull pinned together and ready to start work on it's exterior. I've also just recieved a Lucius Pattern Turbo Laser to replace the Vulcan Mega Bolter, I'd planned to convert this to fit in with the Mars pattern, however it seems that Forgeworld may release the actual Mars Pattern arm far sooner then anticipated as it was on show at GD Baltimore - we'll see how get's to the arm first, me or Forgeworld.

My money's on Forgeworld.

Venatio Accipiter (Part 2)

Thanks to another heavy snow fall I had the best part of a day working at home, which of course also gave me more time for hobby! Having succumbed to ordering a Shadowsword (I know, I know...) I'm really keen to get the Warhound finished and so it's been the focus of work.

The rear portion of interior detail as a result is pretty much finished, a few gaps to fill and then paint now the three sections which make up this part of the hull are joined need doing, but otherwise I'm quite pleased with the result. That said, please forgive the fact that it's flash photography, which detracts from the work somewhat.



The legs have also seen some more work, it's now pinned to the new base, having replaced the original with a MDF Clock Blank I came across, I've a little more filling to do on the toe mounts, then I'll add the toes themselves and build up the base a little more around the feet before I get this ready for painting also.



For now though next up will be the forward part of the hull along with the gun servitors, it's basis is assembled, some gaps need filling then it's down to prepping for painting.

Venatio Accipiter (Part 1)

Ah I can't seem to settle into doing one project at the moment, maybe the Warhound will finally settle me down for a bit, I've spent the past couple of days cleaning and assembling the legs. As you'd expect with FW it's a bit of a job, certainly Titans are'nt for the faint of heart but I think I'm getting the measure of the beast - though I've not tackled all those pistons yet!



As it stands (hmmm) the legs themselves are assembled, but here it's hips are merely pinned in place and not glued (hence the giant floaty hand), I'm torn between painting the legs seperately first or doing the whole lower portion in one hit, will have a think though I'm pretty sure doing them seperately is probably the best plan. The next couple of weeks promiss to be rather busy however so it's quite possible I wont get to do anything much more until my christmas break now - even that could be busy though time will tell.

Venatio Accipiter - Project Start

Try as I might when it came to the crunch there was one in stock and I could'nt resist. So yes, I've gone an bought a Mars Pattern Warhound Titan, looking at the kit now it really is an even nicer model then I imagined, though it really is going to be a modelling challenge by the looks of things. All parts are in the box, theres little excess release agents so I'm hoping the kit will be nice an easy to clean with soap an hot water, and as a bonus there seems to be no miscasting and minimal flash.

Taking this one on now means putting on hold a number of other projects, that'll mean the Leviathan, Russ and Basilisks all get put on hold for the time being, sculpting and painting the Leviathan will continue - and I'll probably stil sneak in the Sentinel I've started on - and those proecjts will be replaced with the other put back ones as and when completed, but for now at least this will be the focus of my attention.

I'm dubbing it the 'Venatio Accipiter' which translates roughly to 'Hunting Hawk', I've not decided on the colour scheme yet, though it'll almost certainly not follow an existing Titan Legions scheme - none of the ones I like are in the right Segmentum to serve alongside the Praetorians and the ones which are I'm not so keen on, so I guess I'll create my own. I'm gonna start by working on the head, and then I'll move to the legs and work up, I'm half tempted too try an make the weapons swapable so I can scratch build some Turbolasers, though the thought of cutting such a lovely (and expensive!) model scares me somewhat so we'll see!
